Holiday Pet Tips
Keep these tips in mind during the holidays to help your pets stay healthy and happy. Happy holidays from everyone at Happy at Home!
Holly and Mistletoe
These common holiday plants are poisonous to pets. If they are part of your holiday decorations, make sure they are out of reach of your pets. Additionally, the poinsettia plant can irritate the mouth and stomach if eaten.
Turkey and Chicken Bones
Bones or pieces of bones can get stuck in the throat or intestines. Dispose of these in a place where pets can't reach them.
Decorations
Many holiday decorations can be potential hazards. Make sure your holiday tree is anchored well so the cats can't tip it over if they decide to make it a climbing toy. Also avoid additives in your tree water unless it contains a cover to prevent pets from drinking it. Additional power cords should not be accessible by puppies, kittens, or other critters prone to chewing.
Visitors
Visitors can be stressful to pets. Provide your pets with a quiet hiding area away from company. Teach children to leave stressed or frightened pets alone to decrease the risk of accidental bites. It is also a good idea to provide your pet with an identification collar just in case they get loose.
